TANGO BARDO MUSICALITY WORKSHOP: Layers, Rhythms, and Styles

Tango Bardo is one of the most popular Argentine tango bands. Their music is heard and danced to all around the world. Their distinctive sound and style are chosen by top professional tango dancers for performances and competitions, as well as by tango DJs worldwide.

This 60-minute workshop offers dancers and aficionados an essential framework for understanding and interpreting the genre. The session begins with historical context and an analysis of the functions of typical tango instruments, tracing the music’s evolution through time. Participants will learn to recognize the signature styles of famous orchestras and differentiate between tango, milonga, and vals. The core of the workshop focuses on practical musical elements, breaking down concepts like different types of marcatto and phrasing, understanding how to approach singing a tango solo, and identifying the multiple layers of tango music.

The session culminates in a guided exercise where participants dance together to famous tangos, applying their newfound knowledge to interpret the music’s intricate layers in real time
.

DJ Workshop by Guest DJ Ramu Pyreddy
Saturday 4.00pm at Troilo Ballroom (75 min duration)

Workshop description: A good tango DJ doesn’t just play music—they shape the energy of the dance floor. In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore how to read the room and choose the right track at the right time. You’ll discover how memory, organization, and sequencing combine to turn a playlist into a true dance experience. We’ll finish with hands-on exercises: building tandas, curating selections, and critiquing musical flow.

No prerequisites — everyone is welcome, from curious novices to seasoned DJs. To benefit the most from the hands-on experience, participants are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop and their own music collection.
